Chelsea join Lewandowski race

It had been billed as a two-horse race between Bayern Munich and Manchester United for the signing of hot shot Robert Lewandowski, but now another club have made their move.

Chelsea have now joined the hunt for the signature of the prolific Borussia Dortmund striker, with new manager Jose Mourinho desperate to land the star who dismantled his Real Madrid side with four goals in their Champions League semi-final clash last season, according to numerous papers.
Dortmund have no intention of allowing another key player to join Bundesliga rivals Bayern at the Allianz Arena and have been hoping the forward will instead move abroad. That could now look more likely as both United and Chelsea are understood to be in talks.
Returning Blues boss Mourinho is all too aware of the potency of the Pole and, with strikers Fernando Torres and Demba Ba both reportedly told they can leave the club if a superior goalscorer is found, it could pave the way for Lewandowski to ditch Bavaria and Manchester in favour of London.
It all comes after Mourinho’s top target, Radamel Falcao decided he would prefer to spend his downtime on a jewel-encrusted yacht than in a King’s Road townhouse, moving to fellow big-spenders Monaco earlier in the summer.
Chelsea had been repeatedly linked by the insatiable papers with a move for Napoli frontmanEdinson Cavani, but with Manchester City also circling for the Uruguayan and Mourinho preferring a move for Lewandowski, the rumourmongerers have made an about-turn.
